MBB: Syracuse Blows Out Wake Forest

Not sure if it was Giannis or the lively student section or possibly something like a talk from Boeheim or a player's meeting, but this seemed like a very different team and not just because we shot so well. We played with a lot of aggression and speed. In the second half Buddy probably played the best half of defense he's played in four years, getting his hands on a lot of balls, even flying out to the corner to try to block a three. For the first time in quite a while, I thought I was watching an old Syracuse game. Before the season, this is the style of play I thought we would have.

Despite the increased focus on shooting threes in basketball, I'm still a big believer in the Syracuse zone. It can be incredibly disruptive when played well, creating turnovers and fast breaks. Even this less athletic team caused a lot of problems for Wake tonight. Turnovers killed them. It was like MCW and Dion were back again and stepping in passing lanes and flying down the court for dunks.

Benny played great. A light bulb turned on for him, he didn't seem hesitant. Seems like the player Boeheim said he was in practice the other day. He has learned he needs to fight to get the ball and not watch. And I'm perfectly fine that he didn't get in in the second half. Boeheim has always left the starters in together as a unit when they're on a big roll and I agree. We went from down 3 at the half to up 21. No need for the coach to do anything that might stop that kind of run, let the other coach try to do something to stop it.
