2023 cruits

Missed the game but I saw the box score earlier. Impressive showing for Trey. The kid I really really want is TJ Power from Ducharme's BABC team. Don't know why we're apparently not involved with him.
1. I don’t, DON’T want them to offer Trey. I just don’t think he’s good enough.
2. I like TJ Power. I know TJ Power. I don’t think he’s a good fit for SU. That’s not a TJ thing. That’s an SU thing as much as anything
3. Middlesex Magic beat Team Thrill to keep moving in the UAA. JP battled Derick Queen to a standstill. Queen is really good; generally a top 10 2024 kid. Estrella needs to keep getting stronger but he’s a top 60 range kid. Great touch, very good movement, can shoot and operate away from the hoop, and a nice shot blocker. I am also becoming a big fan of Austin Hunt. Can really shoot. Cormac Ryan 2.0.
I’d be curious to see a ranking of Gauntlet vs UAA vs EYBL.

Why don’t you want TJ Power, the zone? He’s not a typical Syracuse forward for the zone but he seems like such a good all-around player. What do you think of Ducharme?

I want TJ Power in the bigger sense. Please don’t think anything else. But the way I think they continue to approach the game…I think he’s a bad fit. He can be a small 4 in the right system, or a physical 3 (and very good in both cases). SU doesn’t REALLY allow for that. And offensively, he’s not gonna be able to operate as a traditional 3 effectively in SU’s offense, and I certainly don’t see him as a 4 in it (although I almost guarantee he’s the 3/4 on an awesome team in a few years so this is an SU thing). Offensively, SU’s ability to enter the ball anywhere inside a contested 25’ catch immediately starts to make me pensive. For anyone. But then what do they do? I just think there are better fits.
For Ducharme? I’m very indifferent. If he’s the 5th guy in a stacked class, love it. And we’ve lived like that for a long time. If he’s a headliner? Eh. If your class is (for basketball-porn sake) Jackson, Bowen, Griffiths, Estrella, and Ducharme? I’m giddy. But if he’s sort of like this class and a group of 4-5 with one outlier (Mintz)? I’m skeptical. In basketball, I think it’s very reasonable that the experts miss on a kid per class. So a Hakim Warrick being CLEARLY better than Julius Hodge once the dust settles? I thought it became apparent but I get it. A class of 5/6 being that? It’s almost impossible they are wrong on ALL of them. That’s why I’m so negative about our program direction (plus what I’m learning about their general approach to recruiting) and skeptical about this class…especially when the current environment means we have to recruit them all over next year (even the struggling ones).

Pearl, have you been able to find box scores for the Wiz Kids games and Adidas games in general online? I can't seem to find them, the Adidas site doesn't seem to have them for Wiz Kids for this weekend's live period.
No, I haven't looked for Adidas. I looked for Under Armour but the boxscores I saw only showed the final score. I'm spoiled by how good Nike is at providing free livestreams, boxscores and live stats.

I watched the first half, BABC lost by 29. They have three guys that do almost everything for them and the third didn't play today. Power had an uncustomarily poor game, maybe be was exhausted after working so hard at both ends for two games yesterday. In previous clips of Ducharme, he gets a lot of points going to the basket. But today and throughout the weekend, trips inside have almost always ended badly, often in a turnover. He won't have the athleticism to finish in college when the defense around the basket will be a lot tougher than this weekend. He's a shooter. Different type of athlete, but he reminds me a bit of a taller Girard. Get him his shots and he'll knock them down. Ducharme seems to handle the ball fine for a two guard, has a good feel for the game and knows how to play. But he won't be a strong defender or be doing anything in the paint. After last season, he's not the type of player I've been hoping to bring in, prefer more athleticism and physicality. What MassaCusetts posted above makes sense to me, he's a good recruit to add to a good class but not as the top guy.

They will offer. I think they know a guy in his inner circle. No need to rush. I’m sure red and coach talk about it
I’m not for or against offering him right now, honestly. I’m just sharing the offers here because I figured it would be of interest.

I appreciate you posting the offers, the more data points the better and in a new world of recruiting where we r competing the pro leagues and have to rerecruit every players every year, a really good player whose dad coaches here seems like a no brainer to me anyway. If you bring in Jimmy who played his ass off here but clearly wasn’t athletic enough for the ACC, it would be mind boggling not bring in Trey who is actually a high major prospect as demonstrated by these offers.
