I watched some of Gapare for the first time at the Louisville event. My first impression wasn't great because he got beat for a couple rebounds he was in the best position to get but he didn't go as hard for the ball as the opponent did. Although he's about 6'9", he was on the perimeter on offense more than near the basket. He's got a pretty good looking shot and he's a good passer, but what really stuck out to me was what a good dribbler he is for a big guy. His posture is mostly straight up, but he is surprisingly very agile with quick side to side bounce, even with the ball. Once on the break he dribbled through tight traffic changing direction several times.
He finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds, probably playing 2/3 of the game. The rebounding number is higher than what I would've thought because when I was watching I never saw him get many and I didn't see him get any tough rebounds in traffic. From what I saw, the thought of him reclassifying to 2022 is not a good idea. He's not ready to play a lot of minutes at a high major.
Right now, 247 has him at 46 (corrected from my original post) in 2023 and the composite doesn't even have him ranked. He's early in his journey but he has loads of potential and seems like a Syracuse forward, the kind of skilled and athletic versatile big forward we've had a number of. I really hope we can get a commitment.
