2023 cruits

Since midnight, I've seen tweets saying we've contacted two small forwards out of Virginia: Darren Harris, who was offered by Duke and took an unofficial there in February, and Jadyn Harris. Also saw that we've again contacted Donnie Freeman and Elliot Cadeau.

Rivals just updated their 2023 rankings. Estrella 56, Ducharme 121, Elmarko 144 (wtf). They dropped Eklmarko eleven spots, I guess they had to drop him after he won MVP in the UA event. I've gotten the impression that 247 and On3 are better than rivals.

An update on Elmarko

Would love to get Elmarko. Besides his talent, in the couple interviews I've seen he seems like a smart guy with his head screwed on straight. I like our chances even though we will have four point guards with eligibility left. Possible backcourt in 2024 of Judah, Symir (?), Quadir, and hopefully Elmarko and Ducharme. Possibly Taylor too. Could mix and match them in a variety of ways.

*Edited because I forgot about Ducharme.

I wouldn’t necessarily rank On3 better than the other services. Certainly have less history. But I do get the sense Rivals has always been a little biased to the EYBL. I don’t think from having an agenda per se; I think maybe where they can get easiest access which influences things unduly.

Yeah, I was a bit confused about the Elmarko ranking. Seems like On3, ESPN, 247 have him in the mid 60s to mid 70s.

On3 seems to not be afraid to make big moves away from the other services. Rivals has only moved Estrella up to 56, On3 moved him all the way up to 21. On3 also moved Kingsley up to 5 while Rivals moved him to 26. But they're all hit or miss. What schools offer a player is probably better than any of the rankings. Duke and Kansas have offered Estrella, that tells me more than any ranking.

I think that’s probably indicative of their algorithm approach to the rankings. I mean personally I don’t think Kingsley belongs anywhere near the top 10 (although I like him as a prospect). I agree that offers are a great measure.

Wasn’t last year Symir’s 4th year in college?
No, he had two at Marquette and the one at Syracuse. He's a fourth year senior this coming season, same as Joe.

Anyone with thoughts about Joe or Symir playing a fifth year? My wild guess would be Joe does not and Symir does, but it's not based on anything other than my gut feeling. I know it's way too early to speculate but Elmarko and Ducharme will be looking at our potential 2024 roster to see how they would fit.
