I think Hart is a person you’d have to look at. I’m not sure he’s the exact answer, but definitely would be worth a look.

I don’t think the move to the ACC has anything to do with our program’s current status, stale or otherwise. To me, it’s coincidental to an aging coach that refuses to change, and has taken the program hostage. We had a good run initially in the ACC, and then recruiting just died off. It corresponded with Hop leaving and having a bench that just hasn’t shown an ability to deliver….and yet nothing has changed.
I’ve been screaming for Jason Hart to anyone that will listen to me!! 😂. Now who knows how good a coach he can be, but now coaching the G league ignite plus his years at USC I have little doubt he’ll be a recruiting menace. Now again, the Xs and Os I have no clue about how he’ll do but he has the experience. Now, I know there’s gonna be some messiness with Gerry and Red and there will be hurt feelings but to me I think that’s clearly the best hire.

All honesty I probably prefer they go outside the program all together. But short of that Hart has to get a look. If somehow Gerry is the choice we are in massive trouble. I’m not saying he won’t be a good coach someday…but he’s gotta go earn it.

I feel like Hart is out of the program. He hasn’t been here in 20 years. Learned under different coaches and worked his way up. Still an alum and family tho. I just don’t see Gerry jumping Red.

Hart hasn’t been connected to the program much at all since he played at Syracuse. I don’t think he’s even come back to visit much like some former players do. It could be an uncomfortable situation if Wildhack were to overrule JB and go outside the current staff. Hart is someone who could receive JB’s blessing.

I’ve been pro Boeheim forever and keep a positive attitude but if this is a sub-.500 year then Wildhack should go. Get a new AD and have all major sports on notice. Basketball, Football and Lacrosse. JB has made this program what it is but the AD needs to make the best decision for the future of the program/school.

That said I don’t know Wildhack’s contract term etc. Don’t know what the school thinks either. But I’ve had enough. Hope the team figures it out. But agree that this is the team JB chose and is choosing to move forward with next year as well based on 2023 recruiting.

Same here about JB. I rewatched the game and the lack of effort on defense is stunning. It wasn't just young guys in the wrong place, that's understandable. Our perimeter defenders made half-hearted efforts to close out on the shooters. We never made them put the ball on the floor and just watched great shooters take open threes all game long. Joe plays creampuff-soft defense and never runs at full speed. And he's a four-year starter who shows zero leadership on a team full of freshmen. And somehow Judah didn't play defense with any intensity, man or zone. He was a very good, aggressive defender at Oak Hill. I don't even know what's up with that.

I always used to think it was the guards who made our zone so tough, and it has been years since we've seen one good defensive game from our guards. Yet somehow the players who have been JB's target for criticism about their defense the past two seasons are Jesse, Frank, Benny, and Chris. Benny hustled the other night. Just once I would like to see JB tear into Joe for a change when he makes one of his half-assed efforts to defend a guy.

I can’t wait until Joe is gone. Been pretty much saying that for 3+ years now. Guy can’t dribble up the court, penetrate, and never puts a hand up on a shooter. It’s infuriating. He’s the only shooter on the team I trust this year so I’ll take him out there but good riddance. In terms of Judah and the younger players it probably stems from last year. Joe and Buddy never challenged shots or got their hands up. Lazy D. And we know those 2 never got challenged or called out in public as well as jimmy. So the youngest players are taught by example and what do you know?? Awful close outs and no hands up at shooters. Need MCW and triche back to run a couple practices

Putting aside the digs on Joe’s offensive game (which are misplaced), you’re talking about 6’6” and 6’4” guards vs 6’2” and 5’11”. Totally different profile physically. Which is huge.
The way SU plays the zone, the wings are the hardest/most important positions. By far. They have the most ground to cover and more responsibilities. Typically that wouldn’t be the case because it’s about making the high post work….but we never really deal with the high post, and certainly not well. It’s just a mess. And don’t get me started that they have intentional shifts to have the 5 closing out corner 3s. That’s just so, so bad.

All respect to JB, but who gives a shit if he gets pissy? I realize he built this program, but he should not be the be all, end all when it comes to finding our next coach. He should absolutely have a say in the matter, but he is not Syracuse University. The program doesn't belong solely to him.

They aren’t going to fire JB. He’s not just a basketball coach to Syracuse. Remember when the university announced him and Julie were covering the tuition for the mens and womens lacrosse teams after 2020 so the seniors could return? It’s a lot more than a basketball coach relationship with the university. And that’s before being the winningest active coach in basketball.

I’m as frustrated as anyone with the state of the program. We are not even approaching the standard of Syracuse basketball I grew up with. My standard for Syracuse basketball is to always be ranked in the top 25. That’s what I grew up with. That’s what I expect. A down year we would be hovering around 20-25. But normally in or around the top 10. JB talks about taking an unranked team limping into the tournament, barely making it in and winning tournament games and calling it a good year. I understand where he’s coming from, but that’s not me. I don’t go to tournament games. I go to the dome. I buy regular season tickets. I want to be on a 10 game win streak and ranked with Duke of North Carolina coming so I can buy tickets. It’s frustrating to get beat by nobody’s.

I understand what you’re saying but it’s not Joe’s fault…

Amen. Now tell that to Wildhack because I have a bad feeling he will listen to JB and Red will be next. I hope I am wrong.
