I’m not for or against offering him right now, honestly. I’m just sharing the offers here because I figured it would be of interest.
I’m still on the fence with him, and the offers don’t change it for me. He’s clearly putting in work because his jumper is so much better than last year. I just don’t feel like he’s so obvious that you’d be in a rush if he wasn’t Red’s son. He feels like the exact sort of kid to watch through the summer and then decide. In part, I’m not entirely sure what he is at the next level. I wonder about his athleticism overall, height for a 2, and ability to play the 1, etc. None of that should be construed as negative….I just think if there wasn’t the connection he would be an interesting prospect to watch for a bit rather than a “get after him now”.

I think you make good points, but because he is Red’s son I am using the assumption that if he doesn’t have a great first season or something happens he won’t want to transfer out immediately. In the transfer portal world that is the new reality having some continuity from season to season is a big asset. Obviously that assumes Red is still here.

Totally get your points, but I’m gonna side with Hoiberg and Willard (yuck) on this recruit.

I think the more we get into summer the more offers he will get. Can easily see Pitt or WVU being the next show to fall.

The thing to keep in mind with Trey Autry is, what if he talked to his dad and said "no offense, I just want to go somewhere where I can be myself and create my own legacy. Not play for you and be compared to you." Dad says, "fair enough." So no offer comes. I'm not saying that is what happened, I honestly don't know. But that is a plausible explanation.

That’s fair, maybe not even about basketball, maybe he just wants to go do his thing somewhere else, I get it.

Would be disappointed though, he can play.

Mike/Pearl/everyone, can't recall if we already discussed this, so sorry if I'm being redundant, but Boeheim was apparently watching Expressions Elite vs UPLAY Canada over the weekend. I think Buzelis, Griffiths and Taylor Bowen play for Expressions, but I didn't get the sense that Syracuse was really in the fold for any of them at this point. Curious if SU is actively recruiting any of them at this point.

Since you guys have been talking about TJ Power, he got an offer from Notre Dame. I have never seen him play, but the way you guys are describing him, that offer seems to make a lot of sense. Sounds just like a Mike Brey type of player.

I just saw him for the first time this weekend when I was watching Ducharme and he stood out for how physical and aggressive he is and as an all-around player, inside and out. He looks like a very good college player, ND might be a good fit for him. MassaCusetts knows him much better.

I just saw an article on the On3 site where 2023's Elijah Fisher said he's not hearing from a lot of schools these days. I know there's talk of a possible reclassify to 2022. SU offered him early on, and the Orange certainly has gotten some guys in recent years from Canada. Mike, do you know if the 'Cuse is actively recruiting him these days? He had a crazy dunk this past weekend on the AAU circuit.

Here's that dunk.

I’m a big fan of his. My comments about fit for SU shouldn’t be taken for anything but. I think fit is going to be everything for him because of athleticism, skill set now, what he might look like in 2-3-4 years, etc. Honestly in a lot of ways he reminds me of old Howland/Dixon Pitt players that would just rip us apart. For SU, I just don’t like the fit as much for him or the program. Which is all at once frustrating and just how it goes with some kids/teams. In this case, more my frustrations with Boeheim/SU. Mike Brey is far more willing to adapt to what he has. Everything runs from the same basic principles….just with wrinkles. That’s why one year a Harrangody is such a stud, another year it’s Wesley…they evolve. I don’t think SU ever does.
I think part of why he’s so effective in AAU is that so many teams are so undisciplined defensively, and a lot of his 1-1 highlights are off smaller guys. BUT, bigger guys struggle with him too. But not when your offense is throw it to a wing 26’ out, and generally stand around and play one on one and hope to make shots. Against college kids. In the highlights/games you’ll see in AAU…other than Ducharme BABC doesn’t have a shooter I would worry about doubling off. Yet, they almost never double hard….when they do, I think you start to see some of the present limitations. “Limitations” I would HAPPILY live with btw.
