247 Final 2022 Rankings

247 just posted their top 150. Mintz 54, Bunch 61. That is it. Mintz at 54 is beyond my comprehension. Also difficult to understand the reasoning that would have Mintz and Bunch ranked so close together. Their performances in the NIBC and college readiness are not so close. Not saying Bunch is too high, but Mintz is far too low. Taylor unranked. According to 247, our recruiting class has two four stars and four three stars. Boeheim would vehemently disagree (me too). I hope he's right.

Only AJ Store at 131 made the top 150 off the IMG post grad team. Taylor and Justyn Fernandez dropped from inside the top 100 to outside the top 150. I think that's less a reflection of their play and mostly because they get hidden from analysts at IMG PG, where they don't play the other high school teams. I doubt any analyst has seen them play since last summer. If Justin needs any extra motivation, this might do it.

Yeah, just saw that as well. Kind of surprised Taylor isn't in the top 150. Regarding Mintz, you think he should be higher? I know ESPN has him at 33, although the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Consensus both have him around 45...

Mintz used to be ranked in the twenties. He played alongside two five stars and a top fifty guy and yet still was one of the top and most efficient scorers in the NIBC. I have no idea what happened to him in the rankings, but I know there are not 53 other high school players I would rather have next year than Judah. I think he’ll be the most electric player we’ve had since MCW and Dion.

Hopefully, this is big motivation for Justin Taylor and he comes in with a chip on his shoulder ready to prove the analysts wrong. He has dropped in ranking significantly. I think he’ll be competing with Chris Bunch next year for minutes at the small Forward spot. We’ll be solid and four deep at guard, so he may see some time at SG, but more minutes will be available at SF. When he is a sophomore, he’ll get a chance at more SG time.

I've wondered, regarding Taylor and Copeland, if playing for the PG team had anything to do with ranking drops, particularly for Taylor. Not sure how often analysts, scouts, etc., would see the IMG post-grad team play versus the national team, etc.

Speaking of Justin, Donna Ditota is in Virginia watching Justin today (was with Maliq last night). She was asked in the comments about Justin playing forward. Justin’s Mom jumped in and replied. Good to hear, and as I expected. Justin was active in recruiting Mintz and he must’ve realized what that would mean for him and Copeland.

Taylor’s issue is he’s a shooter that has struggled to shoot the last few years. He’s got some serious flaws in his mechanics that are fixable but do need to be addressed. He’s a good player and I like him a lot long term…but personally I think the ranking is fair. And I think the IMG PG team point is very fair.

I would bet never. I get the feeeling most analysts probably don’t watch full games unless they’re five star players or at AAU. I read a lot of analyst comments about Maliq before seeing him play. Nobody once mentioned he’s an excellent passer. It jumped out at me the first few minutes of the first game I watched him and Blue Ridge play.

Yea, he was billed as a shooter but he hasn’t shot well when I’ve seen him. What do you think needs fixing?

They saw them. They still played loaded teams. They just played lousy ball and it hurt them all. Don’t also forget Maliq’s competition was just ok. We’ll see what translates right away or what just takes time.

Guide hand is frequently right on top of the ball or behind it (this is my biggest issue)…his alignment gets all over the place…his elbow can float a little…his release point isn’t always on the way up (except when he’s off the dribble and then things smooth out) and it can get flat/quick.

Mintz will be PG1
JG3 SG1
Taylor SF1
Benny PF1
Jesse C1
Torrence might start to begin the year but he's honestly a good 6 man and his passing is a great boost off the bench. He plays kinda like how Rajon Rondo plays nowadays. I just think Mintz will be such a complement to Joe and he will set up Joe so well that I'd be suprised if Joes doesn't avg close to 20 a game just because of how well he'll be set up!
