Mike, what’s the assumption for next year’s team? I’m guessing/assuming Cole and Sy will come back since they both have one year remaining. I doubt Buddy will be back (but I guess he may want to).

I just can’t see Joe making any further step to be better against high level competition. Yes he’s been better overall this year but I don’t think he’s going to improve to make this team better next year.

Do they go after a grad transfer?

What about Bryce Lindsay (seemed like we liked him at one point):

Also think we need an athletic/scoring forward. Maybe Kaluma will transfer??

I’ll keep watching this team but they’re painful to watch. Jesse will be the best player on the team next year.

I didn't think Cole had eligibility left after this year. I would guess Buddy is back. Where else is he going? They really need to bring in athletes. Having 4 of the starting 5 be slow unathletic kids is really the undoing of this year. Jimmy put too much faith in the shooting aspect. No player on this team can create off the dribble and kick to shooters except Sy. The full court press we used to have get us back in games has never been used this year bc if a P5 pg sees Girard trying to pick him up full court they may turn the ball over bc they fell over laughing. The incoming class is certainly a good start and I'm sure benny will improve over the summer. But they're gonna have to bring in a PG they can have make plays.

Swider has one year of eligibility left, although I think he gets his degree this year so he would come back as a grad student. Before the season I didn’t think it was likely he would be back, though he did leave the option open. Seemed any chance of eventually playing in the NBA meant he needed to start playing against men instead of college students. But I think it’s apparent he won’t be an NBA player, so he might decide to come back instead of look overseas to play professionally. Buddy closed the door before the season, but lately I‘ve been thinking if this season is a disaster he might not want to walk away. Possibly he decides to help the team and his father and put his slim NBA chances on hold.

I didn’t understand why we didn’t seriously pursue Lindsay, he’s a heck of a shooter, although a bit small for the zone. We already have four guards next year with three points so it’s hard to see adding another guard now unless the coaches decide Taylor isn’t ready to start and they don’t want a small backcourt of Girard and Symir starting. If that is the case then they would bring in a starter from the portal, not another freshman like Lindsay. But I lean towards Taylor starting with Joe at the point. Joe would also serve as the backup two, opening up more minutes for Symir and maybe Copeland at the point. All depends on what they think of Taylor‘s development come portal season.

Swider definitely has one year of eligibility remaining. Three years at Nova and everyone gets an extra covid year.

I'm sure Syracuse will evaluate the portal in the offseason and see who they can bring in.

I posted on Sean East about a week ago in the Chris Bunch thread, would love to bring an experienced guard in. He’s killing it at John A Logan this season which is usually a competitive juco program. He is at his 3rd program now at Logan after Umass and Bradley so not sure if there are grade or off the court issues but why not bring in some real depth.

now with the portal juco guys are having a harder time finding spots. Would love to bring 1-2 in that could help. These guys are hungry and would kill to play in the ACC. I posted on the old board last year about Malevy Leons, who is averaging 11 points at Bradley this year would have been great to have him in the mix this year coming off the bench.

wish we played a deeper rotation, but then again I’m not a HOF coach with 4 decades of winning records.

I'm beginning to wonder if Boeheim and the coaches have decided they don't want to bring in many 2023 high school kids right after having just added five freshmen. Seems we might be looking to blend veterans from the portal with the young guys in the 2022 class. Any info or thoughts on 2023 Mike?

They’ve been in contact with guys like Ducharme, Estrella and others. I’ll have articles coming out on each next week. Ducharme was supposed to take an official but it got postponed when cuse had its Covid outbreak.
