Mike, you give him a lot of credit for changing from his offensive game plan to fit the personnel he has. My response to that is, he shouldn't have to change his offensive game plan to meet his personnel. He has recruited to this 'system' for 6 classes AND he has a bunch of "super seniors" on this team. Some of those "Super Seniors" are from the 2016 CLASS! Think about that! So the fact that he even had to change the offensive game plan because of personnel gives me pause. This isn't his 1st, 2nd or 3rd year - This is his 6th season. The fact that we are in year 6 and he hasn't recruited and developed HS QB's and WR's is really frustrating. The fact is you have to recruit/develop players to be successful at SU.Bleav in Syracuse Episode 15: Breaking Down Virginia Tech Win

He needed a mobile QB. I give him credit for going and getting one. He changed his offensive game plan, because he has not been successful developing offensive players for his system. Because of Covid, he has players on this team from the 2016 class.. He has not been able to develop QB's WR's (the most important part of his system). On top of that he has made major mistakes with the offensive line the past 3 years (IMO). Of course he gets credit for Tucker and Williams but Williams is not an offensive player.Changing like that is what good coaches do. You don’t always have the exact same types of players every season so you never have to change. They needed experienced depth at QB, as who they were able to get. Turns out it was a good decision. Not changing the offense to suit his talents would have been bad coaching.
As far as recruiting/developing players to be successful, does he not get credit then for Sean Tucker? Garrett Williams? The improvement of the OL? Or other examples?
My point isn’t to say he’s the greatest coach of all times and above criticism. I’m not against anyone criticizing him. I’m not even saying everyone should want him back. I’m simply taking about having a fair discussion about the coach. My point is that if you want to have a fair discussion about Babers as a coach, you cannot do so by saying “everything bad is his fault but everything good is in spite of him.” That’s neither fair nor correct.
