How to Watch Syracuse at Illinois

While I always think we can win any game and tend to be optimistic about our chances, this can get real ugly if we don't play well. I would feel better if we were coming off a good game, but instead we're coming off a game where we were missing a few players. Who knows how ready Benny and others are to play well. And Judah will be hearing about that slap all night. JB saying the Big Ten sucks will have them in the mood to put a beating on us.

For all the pre-season concern about our forwards on offense, to me it's the guards that have been the biggest problem. Judah has tried to play like a point guard for one game, Northeastern. He's just been a two guard most of the time. And Symir has been quite disappointing as a backup point. You would think we would do a lot more playmaking for others with a guy at the two who played point for three years along with two point guards. But the three have combined for 47 assists and 39 turnovers. Brutal. Judah 17-14, Joe 16-15, Sy 14-10. The only player they find is Jesse sometimes. One of them drove and dished to Chris for a spot up three for the first time all season last game when Symir drove into the middle and found him for a made three. Our passing/playmaking from our guards has to get much better. And we have get Joe some shots with his feet set and he has to make them. He should never go into the paint, one or two dribbles to create space should be it.

A lot of the problem is what we run. There aren’t always options when our guards penetrate.
