How to Watch Syracuse vs Bryant

Bryant should be a good opportunity for our defenders to get better at closing on shooters. Bryant will hurt us from there if we don't. After a tough loss to St. John's, the team will want to bounce back. They'll also want to display for the Dome crowd how much better they became in NYC. I think we play a strong game and win easily.

OT on another team on our schedule--I watched most of Duke yesterday, who was a 22 point favorite over Oregon State. Duke won 54-51. Oregon St came out in a zone and Duke's young players looked confused. Their offense was reduced to jacking up threes, which they missed. Duke was barely able to keep up a one point per minute scoring pace for most of the game. And Oregon State's zone was pretty vanilla. Ours can be a lot better than theirs. Oregon St switched to a man later in the first half because they were getting killed by offensive rebounds, and went back to the zone for much of the second half.

Our team that played Richmond would beat Duke right now. Unfortunately, we get Duke late in the season when they'll be far better than now. But maybe we are too.

Flip is far and away Duke's best player. I've always liked his game a lot, but the word out of Duke summer practices was he wasn't looking so good. Not true. His physicality inside was hurting Oregon. Plus burly big off the bench Young, the Northwestern transfer, was hurting them too.

Right now, Lively isn't much of a college player and I am still pissed he was voted second team all-ACC over Jesse (and others). He's a high school big with a very limited offensive game, who was injured and would miss the fall practices that are critical for a freshman, plus miss some games. He never should've been voted anything based solely on how the NBA likes his potential.

Duke brought their refs with them. Young got a critical offensive rebound with a clear two-handed push in the back. Then with I think about twelve seconds left, Duke was gifted a timeout, even though Oregon St tied up Proctor on an inbounds before he asked or signaled for the time out.
