Kiyan Anthony

He'll definitely need a growth spurt to get to the P5 level, but hey, Melo didn't have a growth spurt until like his sophomore or junior year, so there's a track record in the DNA.

I agree with the above comments. However, if any legacy player "should" be offered a scholarship based upon only what that Syracuse alumni player has done and continues to do for Syracuse University, it is this legacy kid. One can argue that Carmelo is rich, he can afford to pay, he's too short or that his kid is marginal, etc. but the fact is he did put his own money on the table and invested some big dollars into Syracuse University.

One would assume that it would not be about the money for Carmelo as much it would be about the immense pleasure and personal satisfaction he and his family would get from his son being offered by his alma mater ...

I know, I know... Stop thinking this way ... the business of college sports today no longer allows for this type of thinking.... ah but for the good old days..

I understand the point. The issue I have is that it is a business, and not just for the NCAA to make money, etc. It’s important to the university, and in SU’s case, the entire region to some extent. Boston College sucks at basketball, it’s never going to influence one iota of the greater Boston economy. Syracuse winning 25+ games, selling 35,000 tickets, drawing people in….it does have a large impact. Now if you’re loaded and can make it work? Ok fine I guess. But what about the last couple years when we’ve had clear roster issues? Especially from a program that couldn’t bring in Kevin Huerter (who I think would have made those teams EXCELLENT) because of the limitations they were punished with?
But also, why would any kid just want to come and sit and be compared to their father who is that level of an icon? Billy Owens is hands down in the discussion for second best SU player ever, but almost 30 years had passed, he was long retired, etc. Carmelo will likely be retired by then, but he’s a very “present” figure in basketball for the next 10 years. Going and riding pine at SU seems like a tough thing. He’s got a long ways to go to even earn a George Mason scholarship; there’s a fair amount of video on him and he’s just ok right now. That may change, but he’s got a LOT of work to do. I think this offer is entirely about a name. I hope the kid is just allowed to be a kid and develop and see what happens.

It makes a lot of sense for SU to be showing interest in him. With his work ethic and genes combined with being in the middle of a growth spurt, I am not betting against him. Would be pretty dumb to be on the outside looking in on this one, in my humble opinion. Coaches wouldn’t be doing their job otherwise.

I think you’re exactly right. I think it would be a mistake to just go all in right now….but involvement and making efforts makes so much sense.

Kiyan was in an event at/with Overtime Elite and did well. Offer him now, he's going to be blowing up this season. 6'5" and growing and getting better seemingly by the day. Melo has taught him well.

On The Season Ticket's newly released pre-season top 25, NYC's Christ the King is #20 in the nation. Kiyan Anthony is the fifth player listed of the key players. I wonder if he has a chance to start as a sophomore.

Elliot Cadeau's Link Academy in Missouri is ranked #3. A very loaded team. Wish they were in the NIBC where they would be easy to watch frequently.
