Exactly the type of athlete we need to get back to. We used to be the longest most athletic team on the court.
Maliq isn’t a highlight reel kind of athlete, more blue-collar. Not quick but not slow either, moves pretty good for his size. He has the frame where he can add as much muscle and bulk as he wants. Plenty strong now for a high school kid and he plays strong around the basket. The competition isn’t the toughest. He will need to get used to the much tougher and intense play of college, but I‘m confident he will.

I’m just excited to watch a player who is hungry for rebounds and gets after the ball. Malik seems like that kind of player. Tyler Roberson was that way and Quincy Guerrier, too (not sure about this year, looking at his rebounding numbers).

That’s Maliq. At first glance he’s not a hi-energy guy but he goes after most rebounds even if he’s not in the best position to get them. Loose balls and steals too, he takes the responsibility to get the ball for his team. He will have to learn to do it against much better athletes when he gets to SU.

Although Maliq doesn’t play the competition anything like what Bunch goes up against in the elite NIBC, Maliq would probably start for Wasatch and help that team tremendously. I almost think he could even help our current team right now if he had been on campus practicing with the team since the summer. He’s got much more to his game than a guy like Bol. He’s a player not a project. And it seems his game will translate to college easier than a scorer’s would.

They only scored 33 points in a whole game?
That's what I said. They play 32 minute games and without a shot clock, but Blue Ridge is usually in the fifties. I saw the early part of the game then checked in again at halftime with the score in the twenties. I didn't see it again until the last minute or two, with Blue Ridge holding the ball for over a minute. Blue Ridge is kind of like SU is this year, with shooters but not penetrators, I guess they couldn't hit shots. The other team banked in a desperation three at the buzzer from deeper than a Girard deep three to win it. What little I saw, Maliq was a dominating defensive presence early in the game, both on the perimeter and at the basket. Again, not against elite competition.
