MBB: Syracuse Hangs On to Top #23 NC State

--NC State started two guys in their fifth year. We started three guys in their fourth month.
--Judah 9 assists, 1 turnover.
--NC State leads the ACC in turnover differential with +4.5. We won the turnovers, 12-10. Judah was outstanding taking care of the ball.
--We hit 16-17 free throws.
--Chris had another strong game while missing his threes.
--Maliq was not good despite ten points, he was beat on the boards by Clark a lot. Defense was spotty also. Fantastic play knocking that last ball into the backcourt.
--Best thing about Jesse's three is Quadir jumping up before the ball was halfway there. He knew Jesse is money.
--We're tied for sixth with Duke and Wake, ahead of ninth-place UNC. We're better than Duke.

We have never finished more than two games above .500 since our first year in the ACC nine seasons ago, the Tyler Ennis season. This team with three freshmen starters is 9-6 with five to go.
In Jonathan Wasserman's mock draft today, Judah is the 45th pick. I'm getting the feeling that over the next month Judah is going to play himself into the first round after this season. He's been the difference between last season at 16-17 and this season at 16-10.

I don’t think there’s much of a chance at first round. But equally bad: playing his way into a team guaranteeing his contract even if they take him in the second round.
Malachi Richardson played his way into the first round with a late season freshman run, and he wasn't nearly the player Judah is. Judah's getting better all the time. In a game where he had 20 points and 9 assists, he only had five missed shots, no missed free throws and 1 turnover. And against a team that's been one of the best in forcing turnovers, while going one on one with a talented fifth year guy in Joiner.
Yeah but that team went to the Final 4. I would love to see this team win the ACC tourney and see what happens. I think Judah should stay but I get the guarantee talk (Pearl and I did think he had one and some potential before he got to campus

He’s not a good fit for an NBA team right now because of his shooting (and despite steal numbers there will be plenty of questions about his defense). That shouldn’t be taken as a negative against him; he’s just not ready, and this is a loaded draft. Teams late first are going to be very specific and/or be looking at a draft and stash. Having to pay a developmental point guard first round money is gonna be a tough, tough call. Malachi looked like he had an NBA level skill and good positional size, and was a terrible draft pick. He needs more time running a team and developing point guard feel; and he’s getting that. It just feels like the right decision is another year, no matter how this season shakes out. Don’t get me wrong; I get why it’s absolutely a threat he goes. But I’m just hoping with some NIL money coming his way, he sees the progress he’s made this year and wants to do it again. I don’t think he’ll see the same thing splitting time between being the 12th man and the G League.
