It is amazing to me that some fans just don’t understand the difference he’s making for the future of our sports. I’m kind of sick of seeing some of the shade thrown his way based on the current team performance. It’s gonna take time. He’s the right guy. He’s the only AD we have had that has been able to fund raise at the current level. He’s the only AD that has been able to get the university to allow going rate for coaching salaries. He’s the only AD that has been regularly remodeling, funding, and planning very expensive projects to try to get our facilities up to a P5 level.

It’s gonna take some time to see all this through. We didn’t participate in the CFB arms race in the early 2000s. Once the construction is done, we will be easier to recruit to. Buffalo and Liberty have a better locker room than we do. Cortland State has nicer facilities than Syracuse does. Because of previous ADs. It’s changing. Wildhack is giving the coaches an opportunity to compete in the ACC at a level we haven’t in a long time. It may take a decade for it to be finally realized. But the investment is happening now because of him.

There is no AD in the country that has done more is the same time period with less. People don’t realize how behind the 8 ball we are because of the sheer lack of investment for 20 years.

He’s focused on investing. He’s raised over $1 billion in the forever orange campaign. We announcing new construction during Dome renovations. He’s working quickly.

He’s absolutely the right guy.

Some good points here. Not a popular opinion but a good way of showing the other side of it.

Yeah. I understand some of the other arguments. With Hillsman, with Scanlan. Football success isn’t immediate. But man it’s so hard to get Syracuse to open its wallet to invest in sports. It feels like with other ADs we have had that their hands are always tied by the university. John is working around all of it that they could not. And having success doing so. In my lifetime there has never been a bigger investment into sports than right now. And it’s by a lot. I want to be competitive. I want recruiting wins. This is how you do it. I don’t want to revert back to an AD who can’t figure out the money portion of it. I feel like all the construction we have going right now and will be doing is a best case scenario for Syracuse. In large part that is because of the job he’s currently doing.

I’m afraid that with a move here and stopping some of his progress we will revert back to a situation where we can’t keep Doug Marrone at his alma mater. Or really even a guy like mike hart which should’ve been easy. When a coach comes in, looks at the new facilities, starts to have on field success and we are willing to pay him, it’s a lot harder to leave. Way easier to get comfortable in your job.

Marrone left to go to NFL money wasn’t an issue for him. He was both sick of recruiting HS kids and he saw a chance to coach in the league.
Mike Hart leaving to Indiana could’ve been stopped if we matched his salary but we would’ve lost him to Michigan eventually anyway.
Fundraising is great and we desperately need to upgrade our 1980’s Dome lockerooms but there is no question JW has done a terrible job with the WBB & MLAX issues - not to mention all of our sports seem to be losing left and right - at least that’s what my Cuse app notifications that pop up on my phone seem to tell me

I agree with some of that but I’m also of the opinion we have had lame duck ADs that get pushed around by administration and not been able to get them to invest into sports. Syracuse wants to be a research school. That’s expensive. Professors get all the money. John’s been the only one that’s been able to get around it and get buy in. He’s changing the spending culture of the athletic department. Which I value quite a bit. All of this should’ve been done 20 years ago. Think about the ADs before him that couldn’t get anything done. These investments happening either now or soon are the most important thing to happen in the athletic department in a very very long time. Difference in opinion I guess is that I’m valuing that more than current state of programs. Because we have needed it this entire millennium and no one could do it until John. We have to see it through.
