High praise.
I watched the first quarter. Maliq had three very nice assists, found cutters. Maybe they didn't record all the assists. He's probably a better passer than Marek. I also saw a few blocks.
The competion reminds me of Class A in CNY. 3 or 4 teams might have a Low D1 player. The best teams might have 2-3 players that could go D1. And then the rest of the teams are rural 6'0 dudes who are just playing to play lol.The competition is not at a very high level and can range from weak to good. The last couple games have been weak. But they do play some good competition with a high major recruit, including Justin Taylor's old team that has a top 100 center. Blue Ridge has lost five games on the season so they've been challenged sometimes. Maliq seems to have his highest scoring games against the tougher teams. Jumping up to a very different level of competition will be Maliq's biggest challenge but I think he's very capable. Seems to me his kind of game translates easier than a scorer's would.
Surprising. Hargrave, who they recently played, has pumped out a good amount of professional players through the years. My buddy played there when Keatts was the coach. His brother also played there, and is in the top 10 for all time leading scorers in NC St history. The competition is not at a very high level and can range from weak to good. Yep. Has a nose for the ball off the glass, on the floor, in passing lanes, with strong, sure hands. Five years from now when looking back at this class, I would not be shocked if the guy who did the most for the Syracuse program was Maliq.I think I’m really going to enjoy Malik playing for the Cuse. I love his aggressiveness, the way he rebounds, and how he takes the ball to the basket.
I think of him as an excellent defender/shot blocker/rebounder on one end and Marek on the offensive end. Neither shoost many jump shots or looks to go one on one, but they both are excellent passers who you can run the offense through. But I think Maliq is an even better passer than Marek and will eventually be a significantly better player because of his size and physicality. Marek tried to fight for rebounds but he was usually overmatched. Maliq won't be, he likes to bang. He's strong now and has a frame that will add a lot of muscle once he gets on campus and training at the Melo Center. He reminds me so much of Marek Dolezaj. Though Marek is more athletic.
