Chaz is in the portal

Chaz shouldn’t affect whether we pursue Mballa because we already had a scholarship available, but it almost seems too coincidental that Chaz hits the portal the day after Mballa hit the portal. Seems Boeheim doesn’t want a full 13 scholarship players.
We already had a scholarship available that in theory would have been for a back up 5 (Quincy). Maybe with Chaz leaving it opens up a spot for a much needed forward like Mballa while reserving a spot for a 5?

I would be thrilled if we brought in anyone else at this point.

We need a 4. Our starting 5 will likely be JG3, Mintz, Benny and Jesse. Who is the other forward? It's key to get someone from the portal.

I will never understand what went on here. As in, why was he ever on scholarship.
It will be very frustrating if they just sit on what they have now. If they try and are aggressive looking to add a kid (or two) and miss, so be it. But if there’s no run I’ll just be so confused.

Syracuse has often had a walk-on on scholarship. This was essentially that, just to the son of a former player. Didn’t really impact anything on the roster.

Syracuse is still looking to add a backup center. I’m not expecting a transfer forward though.

Mike they’ve never gone about it this way. They’ve rewarded kids that worked hard and earned it once there….and I’m not sure (and in fact I’m almost positive they didn’t) they did it in a scenario where it could have locked it up for 4 years. Even in the years when recruiting fell off to bringing in kids the likes of Greg Davis, they didn’t do this sort of thing. It was always strange.
I also think a coach that complained how much the NCAA hurt them with scholarship reductions is a particular hypocrite to waste a scholarship like this, let alone his sudden suggestions they don’t need a full roster. Just because SU chose to proceed this way doesn’t mean it didn’t actually hurt the roster.

Love the quote from Miami's billionaire donor. Isaiah is under contract and I do not renegotiate. If Laranaga doesn't win the donor might fire him. Laranaga must be loving it, what a way to finish his career. Jay Wright went running from this mess, maybe to the NBA where he would have more control. It used to be the other way around.
