Clemson Hands Syracuse First Loss of Season

Awful decision. And why wasn’t the lateral/potential fumble return for the TD not reviewed? Isn’t Dino able to challenge that?
100%, Dino was Sleeping all game. I agree, how in the world did they not take a better look at that throw by the Clemson Qb. It was close. Dino seemed happy to get out of the game healthy.

That was a brutal game from Dino. Penalties and bad decisions, his trademark for his tenure here. We also saw what happens when you make Shrader one dimensional.

He is, but given the situation with time and down two scores, you risk a timeout which you might need. I think the booth should’ve initiated that.

Dino tries too hard in big games. The defense played great for the most part. Shrader needs to learn how to throw the ball away. I think he will be better against UNC. There defense isn't as quick as Clemson's

I agree about the booth, Mike, but it’s risking one timeout vs potentially getting a huge turnover(I assume because the whistle blew the TD wouldn’t have counted?)

Correct. TD would not have counted. I assume though given the game situation with timeouts, unless it's blatant and clear, they would not challenge it. Not saying it's right or wrong, just explaining. I would have understood if Dino had challenged it, but I also get why he did not. That said, the booth should have reviewed it.

Disappointing loss. The O Line was manhandled and allowed 5 sacks. Ellis got some time on the OL. Just after he went in, he got bull rushed (all 375# of him) into the QB for one of the sacks. The OL has to play better and give Shrader some time to operate. Wonder if we will start seeing more of Ellis and More.

Disappointed in the WRs today. This was a game where we really missed Gadsden (along with Jones & Pena). Alford had 1 catch (great play!) in 4 targets and Hatcher had 0 catches in 4 targets. I think we led the ACC today in out-of-bounds catches.

Really nice to see Villari step up and have a good game today. He can be a nice weapon going forward. Shrader didn’t have a great game, though.

Those sideline throws were odd though. The receivers did a poor job giving Shrader space to throw too, Shrader threw some awful balls, and they called that number way too much. Just didn’t make sense. The receivers were overall awful, as they have been. Some of those drops were just disgraceful. Dino also had a bad day if we put coaching on him. The field goal attempt was flat out stupid….and after this many years of this many penalties….it’s impossible not to blame coaching. The bottom line is that SU gave this one away with mistakes. BUT….

When is the last time you could say about a Syracuse football team playing a legitimately loaded big time program, missing their best offensive player, maybe their best offensive lineman, several other key pieces (including top line transfers), and not sound like an absurd homer when you say “they gave this one away”? This is progress. This is a good football team. Now the job is to not let this derail the opportunity they still have, to clean up these fixable errors, and to keep making positive steps. I’m pissed about how they let this slip….but I feel vastly better about our program than I have in a long time.

We gave them the game
1.) insane decision to kick the field goal which led to seven points the other way. Our defense was playing well just punt.
2.) signature awful drops by the receivers.
3.) two dropped potential pick sixes
4.) some unforgivable turnovers like the second fumble
5.) insane costly penalties like Wax’s though that one didn’t cost us-our defensive backs turned uncatchable passes into pass interferences because they don’t turn around and find the ball. Plus the usual pre-snap penalties.
6.) inexplicably calling long passes down the sideline when our offense had been working, particularly with shorter passes and getting the ball to Allen.
7.) Shrader sliding on designed runs when there were more yards to get. He looked hesitant to run after he fumbled on the opening drive.
