In his first game of Peach Jam and playing up a year, Darren Harris hit his first three ten seconds into the game, he hit his second three at the thirty-six second mark, and next possession he was fouled shooting a three and hit two of them. After one minute and eleven seconds of play, Harris had Takeover up 8-0. The box score does not do justice to how he dominated the game and I'm pretty sure the boxscore is inaccurate. I saw him hit five threes, the first four of which registered on the scoreboard as threes, (didn't notice the scoreboard on the last). Not sure what happened with the box. After hitting the first two, the opponent tried to play him very tight and the floor was open for his teammates. He moves well without the ball and uses screens. His six free throws came while getting fouled on threes twice. They tried everything to stop him from getting his shot off. Once coming around a screen a defender stuck his foot out and tripped him. He did all this while only playing 18 minutes. Donnie Freeman did some good things early also.
Harris is an exceptional shooter, with a high, quick, effortless release. He just finished tenth grade, yet he doesn't play tentative like most who play up a year. I really hope Syracuse is a serious player in his recruitment. I know we want to be because Boeheim loves shooters, and he's probably as good as any in his class. He's still almost two and a half years from playing his first game at Syracuse.
