It’s a horrible match up for them. Bigger, stronger, more athletic. They can’t press that team; Flip and their bigs can come catch against pressure 100% of the time. Being able to use your bigs to catch, take one dribble and make a pass makes you hard to press (especially for SU). I know you had your hopes up on this one but it’s just not a team they can beat unless they play awful.Jesse was terrible. Chris was beyond terrible. Justin was terrible. Quadir was bad. Joe was taken out of the game and a non-factor for most of it. Maliq, Benny, and Sy did some good things and some bad things. Judah played well. Not his fault he only got one assist. Everyone else sucked.
Most of our freshmen froze. Duke's freshmen met the moment. And our senior leaders couldn't compete against them.
If Joe leaves, we need at least one starting wing in the portal. Maybe two. Chris was absolutely brutal on almost every possession, on both ends of the floor. He can't put it on the floor for more than a couple dribbles, so to top everything off, late in the game he decided to go to the rim against two guys, I think it was Lively and Mitchell, and it resulted in one of the most pathetic moves ever seen in a Syracuse uniform. Late first half Justin had an open three pointer, failed to shoot it, instead put it on the floor and resulted in an 18-foot fadeaway two pointer that he airballed. Maliq for some reason decided this was the game he would try a few times to put it on the floor from 15 feet out. Lively and Flip made almost every Syracuse player look ridiculous trying to score inside.
JB got outcoached badly. The zone looked ridiculous. We ran no offense other than try to go one on one. One of Duke's weaknesses has been turning the ball over. One of our strengths has been the press, especially at home. Yet we didn't go to it until under 12 minutes to go, after we had long been getting badly outplayed. And we did not go to it earlier when we actually had the better pressing players in the game. Instead, we wait for Joe and Justin to get back in. Quadir and Maliq almost won a game against Pitt that we were down twenty. Yet they're watching from the bench along with Symir after they had been in earlier. WTF.
I always think beforehand we're going to win every game. It’s a horrible match up for them. Bigger, stronger, more athletic. One thing Jesse must get better at is making his move quicker, before the double comes. And passing out of the post. He never made them pay for the double. Of course, that's not all on just him. Can’t run an offense when two wings can’t do anything. Joe was being face guarded. You have no outside threat. Not sure what JB is supposed to run that works when the lineup plays the way it did tonight. Thought Duke was great at doubling Jesse.
Disappointed with all the forwards (JT included). Just awful.
Agreed but I don’t think he can make a consistent play if he plays ‘quick’. Not sure if it’s him or a strength issue. Flip was way stronger in there than I thought he was going to be vs us.One thing Jesse must get better at is making his move quicker, before the double comes. And passing out of the post. Maliq easily had the worst game holding on to the ball I've ever seen him have. He usually has great hands. He was uptight tonight, like a lot of them. And Benny takes jumpers because he can't handle the ball well when he drives.Agreed but I don’t think he can make a consistent play if he plays ‘quick’. Not sure if it’s him or a strength issue. Maliq needs to get stronger. Benny has the weakest hands I’ve ever seen for his size. I think he just has bad hands. Which leads to his overall game issues.
